It’s hard to get enthused about politics in our state after witnessing the Florida Senate debate at Nova Southeastern University.
The lack of candor that afflicts the vast majority of our politicians was starkly evident in Bill Nelson’s lame attempt to answer the question on why we keep the embargo on Cuba while we deal with and borrow from China.
The truthful answer from the senator would have been: “For me to call for lifting the embargo on Cuba would amount to political suicide. Since Cuba doesn’t present a threat to United States nor is it even a topic anywhere else but in South Florida, sticking with the embargo is the easy and cost-free way to go.”
Still, Connie Mack’s poorly scripted performance proved his adversary is, by far, the better man. All Mack seems to have going for him is the vast array of out-of-state money from sources that blindly support him.
But Floridians are not blind. I hope that they will stop Rep. Connie Mack from becoming “Sen. Money PAC.”
