FIU coach Mario Cristobal has seen way too many familiar players on the opponent’s side of the line this season, ones that grew up in Florida.
Western Kentucky (5-2, 2-1 Sun Belt Conference) has 32 Floridians on its roster as it prepares to play FIU (1-7, 0-4) on Saturday at 6 p.m. at FIU Stadium. How many Kentuckians does FIU have? Zip. Nada. Zero.
“Florida produces about 500 to 550 Division I players each year,” Cristobal said. “And I think you’ll continue to see that every year.
“Sometimes you go to a high school game in Florida and you’ll see every possible college logo imaginable on coaches’ shirts. Florida is a great area for recruiting.”
• Receiver Jacob Younger, a 6-2, 195-pound senior, did not practice Wednesday. … Running back Jeremiah Harden could be back Saturday. That could take some of the pressure off running back Kedrick Rhodes and his injured right ankle.
