LAST WEEK’S BEST PERFORMANCES

TEAM OF THE WEEK

With medalist Robert Geibel (65) leading a 1-2-4 charge with Jorge Garcia (68); Kristian Caparros (68) and Tyler Strafaci (70), the American Heritage boys’ golf team shot 271 - a Broward County 18 hole match record, to win the District 22-1A title.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Ryan Giaratano and Christian Blake, Cardinal Gibbons, football: Giaratano and Blake hooked up on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left to help the Chiefs (7-0, 2-0) rally for a 27-26 victory over Dillard.

Gabrielle Ellis, West Broward, girls’ volleyball: Ellis had 13 kills, nine points, eight digs and three blocks to key a victory over Coral Glades.

Valentina Haupt, Sherrell Buckley and Brianna Buckley, Cypress Bay, girls’ golf: Haupt (77), Sherrell Buckley (83) and her sister Brianna Buckley (83) helped the Lightning win the District 22-2A title.

Matthew Butler, St. Thomas Aquinas, boys’ cross country: Butler won his first BCAA individual title and led the Raiders to their seventh consecutive team title.

Jamal Wallace, Northeast, football: Wllace rushed for 196 rushing yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hurricanes (6-1) stifled District 15-7A rival Blanche Ely 32-12.

Daniel Gonzalez-Quevedom, Tyler St. Philip and Aidan Alvarez, Archbishop McCarthy, boys’ golf: Gonzalez-Quevedom (74), St. Philip (77) and Alvarez (80) finished 1-3-4 to help the Mavericks win the District 23-1A title.

Edgardo Arrazola, Cypress Bay, boys’ golf: Arrazola tied for medalist with a 69 to help the Lightning win the District 22-2A title.

Paige Alsten, Pompano Beach, girls’ volleyball: Alsten had 11 kills, 7 points and 4 blocks in a victory over Taravella.

Alexa Cruz, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ cross country: The freshman standout won the BCAA individual title and led the Class 4A No. 1 ranked Raiders to its third consecutive team title.

Melquan Duncan and Johnny Richardson, Coconut Creek, football: Duncan returned an interception for a touchdown and Richardson scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 80-yard touchdown rec eption to help the Cougars (1-6) rally from a 15-point halftime deficit and beat Coral Glades 35-28.

Griffin Goins, Hollywood Hills, football: Goins rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead five yard score that helped the Spartans upset Archbishop McCarthy 30-27.

Alex Oblak, Western, girls’ volleyball: Oblak had 25 kills, 4 blocks, three points and 4 digs in a victory over Hollywood Hills.

Claudia DeAntonio, Alejandra Merchan and Marisa Messana, American Heritage, girls’ golf: DeAntonio (70) won medalist and Merchan (72) and Messana (72) tied for second to help the Patriots win the District 22-1A title.
