TALLAHASSEE -- Junior linebacker Telvin Smith was named Atlantic Coast Conference Linebacker of the Week after his performance in Florida State’s 33-20 win over Miami on Saturday night. Smith totaled a career high eight tackles, including two for loss, and had two passes defended. He also forced a key fumble that set up FSU’s first points and helped turn momentum after the Seminoles trailed 10-0 in the first quarter.
“I just go out there and play hard every chance I get,” said Smith, whom coach Jimbo Fisher referred to as “walking chaos” after Saturday’s game. “Any chance I get to make a play I’m going to capitalize on it.”
Despite their offensive woes on Saturday night, the Seminoles defense held Miami to a season-low 258 yards, including just 29 rushing yards. FSU’s defense currently ranks in the top 10 nationally in all five major statistical categories.
