Selling flowers wholesale may be one of Miami-Dade’s hottest industries.

The floral-warehouse industry’s share of the workforce is about 10 times the national average, putting it on the Top 10 list of Miami-Dade’s outsized industries, according to federal statistics.

The number used to calculate each industry’s standing in the workforce is called a location quotient. It calculates how an industry’s workforce compares to the national average. If a local industry’s share of the overall workforce is the same as it is nationally, it gets a location quotient of 1. If it is half the size, it gets a location quotient of .5. Twice the size brings a location quotient of 2.
