Miami police are investigating a crash that killed three people early Saturday morning.
According to police, a Toyota Scion driving at a “high rate of speed” on westbound Flagler Street collided head-on with a Ford Expedition travelling on eastbound Flagler Street near 59th Avenue at approximately 2 a.m.
The Scion’s engine was torn out of its compartment; the Expedition’s was pushed into the passenger compartment.
Inside the Expedition was a family of four: two boys and their parents. One of the boys died on the scene, while his family was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. The father died at the hospital.
In the Scion, a passenger died on the scene after being ejected from the car. The driver, also ejected from the car, was taken to Jackson in critical condition.
Police have not released the identities of the victims, but are searching for two other cars that were speeding in the area at the time of the accident.
