Family, friends and former classmates will gather at 1 p.m. Tuesday to say goodbye to Christian Aguilar, whose body was found in a Florida field after he disappeared from his Gainesville neighborhood.
Despite weeks of praying and searching, the hopes of finding him alive ended when hunters discovered remains in Levy County.
Gainesville police confirmed last week that they belonged to the University of Florida student who disappeared on Sept. 20.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 5909 NW Seventh St. in Miami. Following the funeral Mass, burial will be at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Doral.
Attending the funeral will also be Christian Aguilar's two aunts from Colombia. They were granted non-immigrant visas allowing them to travel this weekend to Miami.
"I would like to thank Senator Marco Rubio and Senator Bill Nelson for helping make sure Christian Aguilar's aunts attend his funeral," Carlos Aguilar, Christians father, said in a statement. "We would also like to thank those who started an online petition, signed by almost 2,000 people, to bring his aunts to Miami."
That family will travel to Gainesville on Monday to pick up the body and head back to Miami.
