FIU Panthers’ Mario Cristobal acknowledges seniors

Special To The Miami Herald

FIU coach Mario Cristobal took some time to make special mention of the seniors Thursday after practice.

He said the team, which always seems to be energetic and upbeat, needs to be cognizant of the seniors who will be playing their final games mired in a 1-6 overall record and 0-3 Sun Belt Conference mark when they take on host Troy (3-3, 2-2).

“We want to make sure these five weeks are the best five weeks these seniors have ever had at FIU,” Cristobal said.

Get up, hurry up

The 1 p.m. starting time for Saturday’s game doesn’t bother Cristobal one iota.

“It’s get up and hit the ground running,” he said. “You wake up, at 7:30 I believe, and you are on the bus for an hour drive. This thing is going to happen in a hurry. But I do like it better than a night game. I like get up and go.’’
