GAINESVILLE -- On the offense
Although Florida has improved offensively from a season ago, coach Will Muschamp said it’s not a direct result of the switch at offensive coordinator from Charlie Weis to Brent Pease.
“We’re better than we were a year ago. That has nothing to do with that,” he said. “We were all on the same page a year ago.”
Muschamp said last year’s struggles can be attributed to starting quarterback John Brantley getting hurt early on, inexperience on the offensive line and a lack of power at the running back position.
“There was some obvious, in my opinion, deficiencies with where we were last year,” Muschamp said. “And we struggled to find things we could do well and do consistently well. The numbers speak for themselves.”
The Gators were shut down in the run game against top opponents last year, but they have not shown any signs of that this season. UF outrushed LSU 176-42 in a 14-6 victory two weeks ago.
