Anyone looking for a cat or dog will find plenty of choices at a 24-hour “Mega Pet Adoption Event at Tropical Park that begins just before midnight Oct. 27.

The Humane Society of Greater Miami Adopt-a-Pet, Miami-Dade Animal Services, Cat Network and rescue groups, working with PetSmart Charities, plan to offer 800 homeless pets at reduced adoption rates.

The event, which begins with a marathon adoption of puppies and kittens, reprises last spring’s successful Mega Match-a-thon , which drew 4,000 people and found homes for 288 animals.

The event, at the park’s covered Equestrian Center, 7900 Bird Road, includes kids’ rides and games, food, music and dozens of vendors.

“Our goal this year is to find homes for at least 600 deserving cats and dogs,” says Donna Tallon, executive director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami.

The event begins 11:59 p.m. Oct. 26 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 27.
