The University of Miami released its 2013 baseball schedule Tuesday, on the same day that the team opened fall practice.

“This is my 20th year at the University of Miami,’’ Jim Morris, who has led UM to two of its four national titles, told reporters Tuesday. “I’ve got to tell you, I’m as excited as I’ve ever been about fall practice getting started.

“We’re having intrasquad games in the next three days, getting to see the guys get a chance to compete against each other. You want to see the guys who can play in a game and get it done.’’

The Canes play a 56-game regular-season schedule, which includes 37 home games at Alex Rodriguez Park and opens with a three-game series against Rutgers Feb. 15-17.

UM travels to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators from March 1-3, with Florida State coming to Coral Gables from April 5-7. Miami ends its regular season with what is expected to be a key series at home against Georgia Tech May 16-18.

The ACC Tournament, in Durham, N.C., is from May 22-25.

“We’re playing another good schedule,’’ said Morris, whose Canes finished 36-23 overall and 16-14 in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season, and were eliminated at home in an NCAA regional. “The ACC is one of the best conferences in the country. Every single weekend is a battle.’’

Collegiate Baseball newspaper ranked the Miami Hurricanes' 2012 recruiting class as the nation’s ninth best. The Hurricanes' 13-member class is made up of 11 true freshmen, one redshirt freshman and one junior and was ranked third-best in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The rankings are based on players who enroll at school each fall. Players who initially signed with a school and then signed a professional contract after being drafted do not count in the overall evaluation. 2013 Miami Hurricanes baseball schedule
