During the vice-presidential debate, Rep. Paul Ryan clearly showed who the real radicals are in this election.
One of the most important principles built into our Constitution is the concept of separation of powers, in which each of the branches has defined powers, thereby creating a system of checks and balances. For him to state that he and Mitt Romney would seek to have the decision on whether abortion is a protected right under the Constitution taken away from the Supreme Court and decided by Congress shows a shocking disregard for the framework of our government.
Just as shocking was his statement that his decisions would be governed by his own personal religious beliefs, rather than based upon the law and Supreme Court precedence. As Vice President Biden pointed out, the president must be able to put aside his religious beliefs and act in accordance with the laws for the benefit of all Americans.
