Sunday marked the fifth day in a row in the effort to find a missing worker trapped under the rubble of a collapsed parking garage in Doral.
On Wednesday, a section of an under construction parking garage at Miami-Dade College’s west campus collapsed. At least three people were killed: Carlos Hurtado de Mendoza, 48; Jose Calderon, 60; and Samuel Perez, 53. Several more people were hurt.
Perez wasn’t killed instantly. Rescuers found him trapped inside a truck. Rescuers amputated his legs to free him, then rushed him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he died.
But a fourth person, Robert Budhoo, remained missing Sunday, likely trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Budhoo, 53, was an electrician with Stryker Electric working on the garage.
Crews continued to look Sunday, rotating rescuers in and out as they continued to search.
What caused the part of the garage to fail remains under investigation.
