Submit youth football, cheerleading info, photos

Sports Scene is a Miami Herald feature that spotlights news and notes from all youth and adult sports activities with a Miami-Dade slant. The aim of the section is to feature game notes and the accomplishments of individual players from Miami-Dade County, along with league and park standings.

With youth football starting (flag and tackle), submit game notes on Miami-Dade players and teams -- win, lose or draw. Cheerleading programs can submit Cheerleaders of the Week regularly.

To be fair to everyone, we rely on the directors and the coaches of each league and the community to send information for Sports Scene. The more you send, the more space for your player, team, program, sport. We also accept photos, but we ask that everyone pictured be identified with a first and last name and the name of the team or park they represent. If possible, please include the name of the photographer.

St. Kevin cross-country

The St. Kevin Catholic School cross-country program did very well at the St. Bonaventure Invitational.

• Primary Boys (kindergarten – fourth grade) placed third. Top runners included Adrian Delgado, Luis Cordova, Yoyo Barquin, Anthony Bergnes and Ben Rodriguez.

Primary Girls finished third. Top runners included Ane Guerrero, Isabella Hernandez, Giuliana Gomez, Anita Romeu and Gabriella Cordero.

• Junior Varsity Girls (fifth and sixth grades) won. Top runners included Nicole Martinez, Rebeca Rodriguez, Rebecca Bergnes, Elizabeth McCann and Vicky Gonzalez-Pella.

Junior Varsity Boys were second. Top runners included Danny Cordero, Charles Lamela, George Rodriguez, Nicholas Lobato and Brandon Delgado.

• Varsity Boys (seventh and eighth grades) placed second. Top runners included Matias Luna, Mario Garcia, Charlie Lamela, Claudio Benedi and Julian Piedrahita

Varsity Girls were fourth. Top runners included Nicole Martinez, Rebeca Rodriguez, Vanessa Escamilla, Camila Treptow and Cassandra Hasmi-Campaneria

The Gulliver Prep High School varsity boys and girls’ swim teams defeated Miami Country Day.

Miami Country Day top athletes

Miami Country Day School: Middle School Female Athlete of the Week: Madeline Sukhdeo (volleyball) combined for 30 service points and 12 aces at the Spartan Invitational and against Cushman.

Middle School Male Athlete of the Week: Alex Cohen (cross-country) finished fourth for the Spartans high school varsity in a seven-team home meet at Greynolds Park.

  • Be a South Florida STAR, win WWE tickets

    In an effort to recognize deserving South Florida youth who promote the values of the Be a STAR anti-bullying program, World Wrestling Entertainment in conjunction with The Miami Herald is accepting nominations for a special meet-n-greet before a WWE show at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

The Miami Rowing Club girls’ Junior 8 won the state championship in Sarasota. They are Gaby Diaz (coxswain), Abby Sorenson (stroke), Yailene Herrera Ortiz (seventh seat), Adrienne Orriols (sixth seat), Kamila Vasquez (5 seat), Samantha Salazar (fourth seat), Pilar Bancalari (third seat), Sol Helou (second seat) and Marissa Lynn Williford (bow).
