A pedestrian was killed by an SUV rushing away from an earlier crash in West Miami-Dade.
The tragedy happened Wednesday at Northwest Fourth Street at 72nd Avenue. A Ford Explorer careened out of control, hitting the pedestrian on the sidewalk before and smashing into a utility pole. Police say the vehicle, driven by Jonathan Eismann, 51, was involved in an earlier crash with a Nissan Sentra three blocks away.
Several hundred residents at several businesses lost power after the crash.
Former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina and his wife, Raiza, plan to plead not guilty to charges they cheated on their tax returns and lied to federal agents about loans to a convicted Ponzi schemer.
Classes are canceled Friday at the North Campus of Miami Dade college “due to problems with the municipal water supply.”
