S. Florida HEAT falls 16-13

Quarterback Zachary Ward threw for 166 yards and one touchdown to lead Keys Gate past the South Florida HEAT 16-13 at Harris Field in Homestead on Wednesday night.

“This win rest some of the worries that we couldn’t do it anymore,” said Knights coach Roger Morgan after his team snapped its three-game losing streak. “We got a little bit of our fire and confidence back tonight.”

Keys Gate receiver Renel Moreau had five catches for 93 yards and one touchdown. In the losing effort for South Florida, quarterback Greg La Stella threw for 72 yards.

    Cooper City pitcher and first baseman Johnny Haney signed a scholarship with the Point Park University (Pittsburgh) baseball team. The left-hander is 6-0 so far this season with 31 strikeouts, three complete games and 1.28 ERA. He is hitting .317 with a homerun, 13 RBI and 16 runs scored.
