Defensive tackle Curtis Porter returned to practice Tuesday for the first time since the season began.
Coach Al Golden said that Porter, who was recovering from an August appendectomy, is still “a ways away” from appearing in a game.
Golden said Porter will join the scout team and is not yet thinking about how he may want to use him to bolster the defensive line.
“We’re so far away from [playing Porter] that it’s not even coming into the equation right now,” Golden said.
Porter missed all but the final two games of last year with an injury.
• Freshman wide receiver Robert Lockhart Jr. was originally going to be a redshirt this season, but plans have changed. Golden said he expects the young receiver to play Saturday.
“We’ve got a lot of football left,” Golden said. “Clearly Malcolm [ Lewis] is down and we’re … throwing more passes than we thought we would in August.”
