‘A Day at the Races’ benefits SPCA

The fifth annual “A Day at the Races,” featuring horse races, a gourmet lunch buffet and silent auction will take place Sunday at Calder Race Course.

The event will benefit the South Florida SPCA, an organization that helps horses and other livestock animals by providing them shelter, food, veterinary care, training, rehabilitation and helping to find adoptive homes.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and races will continue until 5 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per person in advance, $15 for kids 7 to12, and $10 for kids 6 and younger.

Calder Race Course is located at 21001 NW 27th Ave.

    Csaba, Rule Number Six to meet in Calder’s Memorial Handicap

    Csaba, a winner of five stakes races in South Florida since last July, and Rule Number Six, the impressive winner of a recent Calder Casino & Race Course stakes, will meet for the first time Saturday in the $75,000 Memorial Handicap.

    Finishing second in the Kentucky Derby in the slop proved to be extremely taxing for Golden Soul. The 3-year-old, trained by Dallas Stewart, is preparing for a start in the Belmont Stakes at his trainer's Churchill Downs barn.
