FIU canceled its football practice Monday morning, and it could have been for multiple reasons.

• The weather was drizzly and wet.

• The field at FIU Stadium, where the Panthers practice, was still half-covered in plastic from a rock concert that was held the night before.

• Because FIU played a Thursday game last week, there is ample time to get ready for this week’s game.

The Panthers are banged up with various injuries, and it might allow time to heal.

Odds and ends

FIU (1-5, 0-2 in the Sun Belt) will play Middle Tennessee State (3-2, 1-1) Saturday at 6 p.m. at FIU Stadium. The Panthers are coming off a 34-20 loss to Arkansas State. Middle Tennessee State lost 31-17 to Louisiana-Monroe in its last game.

•  Wayne Times’ streak of catches has reached 23 consecutive games. He ranks fourth on FIU’s all-time list. Cory McKinney (2002-2005) is the all-time leader with catches in 44 consecutive games.

• Middle Tennessee State has 17 players from Florida on its roster, with seven coming from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
