Submit youth football, cheerleading info, photos

Sports Scene is a Miami Herald feature that spotlights news and notes from all youth and adult sports activities with a Miami-Dade slant. The aim of the section is to feature game notes and the accomplishments of individual players from Miami-Dade County, along with league and park standings.

With youth football starting (flag and tackle), submit game notes on Miami-Dade players and teams -- win, lose or draw. Cheerleading programs can submit Cheerleaders of the Week regularly.

To be fair to everyone, we rely on the directors and the coaches of each league and the community to send information for Sports Scene. The more you send, the more space for your player, team, program, sport. We also accept photos, but we ask that everyone pictured be identified with a first and last name and the name of the team or park they represent. If possible, please include the name of the photographer.

Ransom Everglades cross-country

Lauren Archer of the Ransom Everglades high school varsity girls’ cross-country team was fifth of 277 runners during the Flrunners.com Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville.

Archer completed the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes 36 seconds. Teammate Erica Scott was 39th in 20:41.

Stephanie Salguerio was 86th in 21:41.1 and Franchesca Burgos 87th in 21:41.3. Kat Smith was 96th in 21:55. The Raiders were 10th of 33 teams.

• In the boys’ division, the Raiders were runners-up, taking second of 31 teams.

Gabriel Correa ran 16:40, placing 13th of 274 finishers. Teammate Jan Bergengruen was 15th in 16:43.

Adam Friedman (33rd in 17:12), Connor Guest (82nd in 17:56) and Jackson Mihm (85th in 17:58) helped lead the charge.

• In the girls’ junior varsity event, Ransom was seventh of 23 schools.

Nina Stein was sixth of 225 finishers, covering 3.1 miles in 23:18. Also, Kaitlin Marron (31st in 24:49), Camille Dulin (38th in 25:09), Julie Goldstein (63rd in 25:54) and Ariela Schechter (71st in 26:19).

Coral Reef cross-country

Samara Taylor of the Coral Reef high school varsity girls’ cross-country team was 15th of 277 runners during the Flrunners.com Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville.

Taylor covered the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes 4 seconds. Teammate Virginia Ramirez was 44th in 20:52.

Kaelyn Korovich (59th in 21:17), Lauren Holian (103rd in 22:03) and Anna Ballate (124th in 22:16) rounded out the effort.

The Barracudas were 13th of 33 teams.

• In the boys’ race, Coral Reef’s Kurt Convey was eighth of 183 runners in 15:39.

Teammate Carlos Lopez was 55th in 16:48 and Jeremy Abdo 68th in 17:03. Mateo Galvis (101st in 17:31) also helped the Barracudas place 10th of 19 teams in the invitation-only Race of Champions Division.

Miami youth runners

Sabrina Quijano of Miami Elite won the girls’ two-mile race during the Flrunners.com Invitational at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville.

She canvassed the course in 12 minutes 19.5 seconds, besting a field of 43 runners. Rahyah Andressohn of the Miami Milers was seventh in 13:18. Teammate Jeannie Estevez was 14th in 14.30.

In the boys’ run, Frederic Ghonda of the Miami Milers was 13th of 67 finishers in 13:04.

In the girls’ 3.1-mile race, Calyope Ortega of Miami Elite was 23rd in 20:13.

St. Kevin cross-country

St. Kevin Catholic School’s Junior Varsity and Varsity cross-country teams performed well in a meet at Tropical Park.

Junior Varsity Girls (fifth and sixth grades) finished first. Top runners: Nicole Martinez (third); Rebecca Bergnes (fifth); Rebeca Rodriguez (eighth); Alessandra Barquin (ninth); Elizabeth McCann (12th).

Junior Varsity Boys placed second. Top runners: Danny Cordero (fifth); Charles Lamela (seventh); George Rodriguez (11th); Adrian Delgado (17th); Luis Cordova (25th).

Varsity Girls (seventh and eighth grades) were third. Top runners: Vanessa Escamilla (12th); Camila Treptow (20th); Alexa Dussaq (21st); Ariana Garcia (23rd); Krizia Arango (24th).

Varsity Boys took fifth. Top runners: Nicholas Escamilla (14th); Mario Garcia (20th); Claudio Benedi (32nd); Lucas Smith (39th); Julian Piedrahita (40th).

St. Kevin Catholic School is at 4001 SW 127 Ave., Miami. It educates approximately 690 students in grades Pre-K through eighth following the Archdiocese of Miami Curriculum Guide. The school is accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference and affiliated with the Association of Independent Schools of Florida and the Dade Association of Non-Public Schools. The Miami Rowing Club girls’ Junior 8 won the state championship in Sarasota. They are Gaby Diaz (coxswain), Abby Sorenson (stroke), Yailene Herrera Ortiz (seventh seat), Adrienne Orriols (sixth seat), Kamila Vasquez (5 seat), Samantha Salazar (fourth seat), Pilar Bancalari (third seat), Sol Helou (second seat) and Marissa Lynn Williford (bow).
