Roommate-stabber getting a room in prison for life

Eric McDade, twice convicted of murder, is going to prison again — this time for life.

The 40-year-old Miami man must serve life in prison for fatally stabbing his roommate, Erica Scott, in June 2010, a judge ruled Thursday.

McDade previously served 12 years of a 22-year sentence for the 1995 shooting death of a Broward woman. He had only been out of prison 18 months when he killed Scott, Miami-Dade prosecutor Taylor Olson told the judge Thursday.

McDade and Scott worked together at Shorty’s barbecue restaurant. After the killing, McDade went on the lam and was captured at a North Carolina bamboo farm.

A Miami-Dade jury in August convicted McDade of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
