Noted Miami-Dade Public Schools alumni to be featured in new database

What do Desi Arnaz, the founder of Amazon.com and Barbara Walters have in common?

They all attended a Miami-Dade public school. But before now there was no way to quickly verify that fact.

This Saturday, the Miami Herald and the Miami-Dade Public Schools are unveiling a first-ever names database of notable alumni in its online edition. The database lists more than 300 former students.

The database comes on the week the district is launching an Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The first 14 inductees will be honored at 6 p.m. Monday at the New World Center, 500 17th St., Miami Beach.

To buy tickets, which are $75, call 305-673-3331 or newworldcenter.com
