Spicy sipper with sass

Chicago Tribune

We find many colas too sweet. Q Kola isn’t. It is, though, a crisp capture of cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander and cloves, sweetened with agave, balanced with lemon, lime and orange, and fizzed up nicely. Kola nut provides its kick, plus a touch of caffeine; so does caffeine extract. The calorie and sugar counts? They’re a bit less than similar nondiet soft drinks. Suggested retail price for a four-pack of 8-ounce bottles: $7.99. For a store locater or to buy, go to qkola.com.

Street noodles

Go beyond basic ramen with a quartet of microwaveable eats dubbed Singapore Street Noodles from Simply Asia. Each bowl includes three packets (rice noodles, sauce, dehydrated vegetables) in garlic basil, kimchi, sesame ginger and classic curry flavors. They have hot-pepper ratings, are gluten-free and weigh in at 180-210 calories per serving (two per bowl). Our favorites: the fragrant, mild sesame ginger and fiery yellow curry. Suggested retail price: $3.29. To locate a store or shop online, go to simplyasia.com.

New soups

A pitfall of comfort foods? The calories. But Progresso has added two comfort-food standards to its light line of soups: Chicken Pot Pie Style and Creamy Potato With Bacon & Cheese. Each 18.5-ounce can delivers two 100-calorie servings (a serving has a Weight Watchers 2 Points Plus value). The soups are delicate, but the rich classic flavors are there. Suggested retail price: $2.69 per can. A store locater is at progresso.com.

'Meatballs' with marinara

Vegetarian ‘meatballs’ a fun, easy and delicious project

My family has been eating a lot less meat over the past few years. Oh, we still get nice steaks to throw on the grill, and when they show up on the table with oven-roasted potatoes and a mound of dressed arugula, the meal is cause for celebration. But more often than not, dinner will be an amply tricked-out salad with a loaf of bread, a bowl of farro topped with vegetables and a fried egg, or a spicy tofu stir-fry with rice.
