Notre Dame players aware of UM rivalry significance

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly was asked Tuesday what Saturday’s game means to his players.

“I think they’re very much aware of Miami, and the tradition and the rivalry dating back to 1985, where obviously, Notre Dame was beaten handily in that game. Then, of course [Notre Dame] coming back and having a great victory against them,’’ Kelly said. “… It’s important to impart a little bit of the tradition to our players, but they’re focused on what this football team is at, 4-1, the kind of schedule they play, the teams they’ve beaten.’’

•  Phillip Dorsett was one of 11 receivers around the nation added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Dorsett, who went to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High, leads UM with 28 receptions, 464 receiving yards and three touchdowns. “It’s a great honor, obviously. Every receiver wants to be on that list.’’

• Coach Al Golden said defensive tackle Olsen Pierre is doubtful for Saturday. Golden said Corey King will likely replace Pierre, and freshman Dequan Ivery will be included in the rotation. Ivery has not played yet.

•  Seantrel Henderson appears to be the front-runner to earn the start at right tackle Saturday over Ereck Flowers.
