Coach Mario Cristobal said running back Kedrick Rhodes is “day-to-day” in terms of returning to the team from injury.
Cristobal was much more optimistic about running back Darian Mallary. “Mallary, we’re hopeful he’ll be ready to play,” Cristobal said.
Quarterback Jake Medlock, who has a broken foot, is a definite no-go for Thursday’s game against Arkansas State.
Is there any timetable for Medlock’s return?
“Not yet,” Cristobal said. “He’s going to see the doctor [Tuesday], and we’ll know more after that.”
Medlock’s absence means E.J. Hilliard will get his second appearance as a starting quarterback.

Two ex-teammates will be on the field when FIU and Arkansas State play.
FIU senior offensive tackle Caylin Hauptmann and Arkansas State junior offensive lineman Steven Haunga, both from California, played together at College of the Canyons Community College in Santa Clarita, Calif.
