Two in runoff for Broward Teachers Union chief

The Broward Teachers Union is still without its next president, after a Tuesday tally of voting for the union president showed none of the four candidates received the more than 50 percent required to avoid a runoff.

The top two finishers — candidates Sharon Glickman and current union First Vice President Bernie Schultz — will now participate in a runoff election, which is set to begin early next week.

Former union President Pat Santeramo was arrested in July and is awaiting trial on charges he stole about $300,000 from the union through a combination of vendor kickbacks and illegally inflated sick and vacation time.

Schultz was once a close ally of Santeramo’s — a fact that has become an issue in the campaign.
