TEAM OF THE WEEK

Brittany Hammond won the 200 individual medley and led two winning relays to earn the Woodson Invitational girls’ outstanding award, and Lindsey Swartz won the 100 breaststroke as the Pine Crest girls’ swimming team rolled to the Woodson Invitational team title.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Alex Montgomery and Josh Kaiser, Cypress Bay, football: Montgomery made a key interception in the end zone, and Kaiser had the game-winning, 16-yard touchdown run as the Lightning held off District 12-8A archrival Miramar 17-13.

Julia Montgomery, Pine Crest, girls’ cross-country: Montgomery ran a personal-best 17:52 (No. 3 in Florida) to finish third in the flrunners.com Invitational Race of Champions.

Katie Keane, South Broward, girls’ volleyball: Keane had 15 points and nine aces in a three-set victory over Plantation.

Trystan Lago, Highlands Christian, football: Lago passed for 183 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Knights past Coral Springs Christian 26-20.

Jesus Delgado and Sean Smothers, Cardinal Gibbons, boys’ golf: Delgado and Smothers each shot a match-low 73 to help the Chiefs beat University School and Archbishop McCarthy.

Rachelle Alexander, American Heritage, girls’ cross-country: Alexander clocked 20:07 to finish a career-best second at the Spanish River Invitational.

Daniel Spas, American Heritage, boys’ swimming: Spas won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle races to earn the Woodson Invitational boys’ outstanding athlete award.

Alex Collins, South Plantation, football: Collins rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Paladins (5-0) over Coral Springs 42-21.

Matan Ozery, Douglas, boys’ cross-country: Ozery clocked 16:39 to finish sixth at the Spanish River Invitational.

Jenna Cusack, Coral Glades, girls’ volleyball: Cusack had 23 kills, 14 digs and six aces to help the Jaguars rally for a five-set victory over South Plantation.

Lauren Carver and Kaitlin Coyle, Archbishop McCarthy, girls’ golf: Carver won medalist (39) and Coyle finished second (42) to help the Mavericks beat Pope John Paul II.

Chris Lammons, Plantation, football: Lammons ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 179 yards, including two touchdown strikes to help the Colonels (4-0) beat Cooper City 58-10.

Bridgette Villano, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ volleyball: Villano had 16 digs, seven kills and five aces to help the Raiders (7-1) beat cross-town rival Cardinal Gibbons in four sets.

The St. Thomas Aquinas girls’ golf team placed fifth out of 31 schools in the Crutchfield Hawkins Invitational at Highlands Ridge Golf Course (par 35) with an overall score of 163 on Monday.

The Raiders’ Taylor Moody stood out in a field that included 150 golfers, winning Division 1 medalist and overall medalist honors with a score of 1-under-par 34.

Heather Netti and Ariana Garcia followed her, carding scores of 39 and 41, respectively.

Danielle Boyd was recognized for her contributions on and off the course with the Tom McClerk Sportsmanship Award.

On a day shortened by inclement weather, Orlando Windermere Prep won the invitational with a score of 147.

VOLLEYBALL

Douglas improved its record to 11-1, defeating Pompano Beach in four sets 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16.

After a shaky start that saw the Eagles drop a tight opening set, the Eagles bounced back in the second and third sets and ultimately cruised in the fourth.

Kirsten Kuhl led Douglas with 28 assists, 10 kills, nine digs and five blocks.
