BIG BEN CHIMES IN WITH WEEK 3 TITLE, NEARS SEASON LEAD IN HERALD RANKINGS
Steeler Ben Roethlisberger recorded a season-best 54.20 points to win the Week 3 title and roar into second place overall in The Miami Herald’s Passer Success System (PASS) quarterback rankings. Falcon Matt Ryan maintained his season lead. Dolphin Ryan Tannehill slipped four spots to 33rd. Our rankings, in their 15th season, use a simple formula unchanged since the inception in 1998, factoring accuracy, yardage, TD/INT ratio and team result. Most ratings including the NFL’s are complicated and percentile-based, allowing a player who missed half a season injured to still win a passing title. Our rankings are cumulative, placing a premium on QBs who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Players on a bye week take a temporary hit that evens out over the course of a season. Look for our 2012 rankings in this space every Sunday.
