GAINESVILLE -- Florida’s coaches believe there is something to be gleaned from LSU’s close game with Auburn on Saturday.
The No. 3 team in the nation escaped at Auburn, winning 12-10 to stay undefeated, and Gators defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Brent Pease said it will help them in their preparation.
“Through their first three games, that was their closest ball game, so I think you can take some things from that,” Quinn said.
Pease said he wasn’t sure how much they showed in the win because LSU plans on a game-to-game basis, but he said it’s not typical for teams to save certain formations or looks for later opponents.
This and that
• Running back Mike Gillislee, who is second in the SEC with 402 rushing yards, was added to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation’s best player.
• Florida has fumbled five times in four games, but the team has lost just one of them. Pease said the Gators work in practice to recreate game situations and instances in which a player has previously fumbled in order to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
