Filipino Feast Day
The Fillipino Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Miami with Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski will celebrate the 17th annual Feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral of St. Mary, 7525 NW Second Ave. Wenski will be the main Celebrant and Homilist and the Rev. Jets Medina will be the Concelebrant.
San Lorenzo Ruiz was the first Filipino saint and martyr. The community is invited to attend the Mass.
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral 464 NE 16th St., invites the community to its Choral Evensong, to be at 6 p.m. Sunday. It will be the first of only three traditional Sunday Evensongs at the cathedral this fall. The other two Evensongs will be on Nov. 11 and Nov. 25. An International Evensong will be a t 5 p.m. on Oct 28.
On Sunday the Anglican Chorale will sing the cathedral music of Richard Dering, Grayston Ives and Philip Moore. A reception will follow.
Also, at 5 p.m. on Oct. 7, the Cathedral in association with Faith in the City, will host a special non-denominational, interfaith Blessing of the Animals service for the entire downtown Miami community.
Blessing of the Animals
Christ the King Lutheran Church of Pinecrest will have a Blessing of the Animals service from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The day will include food trucks and free information and gifts from Petco. Bring your well-behaved, leashed or caged pet for a blessing in English or Spanish.
Pastor Kathryn Carroll said the blessings will be offered at the gazebo on the church’s grounds along the Snapper Creek Canal. In case of rain, blessings will be indoors. The church is at 11295 SW 57th Ave. For more information call 305-665-5063 or go to www.ctkmiami.org.
Opa-locka Commissioner Rose Tydus will host the city’s Second Annual Gospel Explosion from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Sherbondy Park, 380 Bahman Ave. in Opa-locka.
The program is being presented by Opa-locka and the Parks and Recreation Department and will feature Bobby Rosario, the group Sensere, the DNA Music Boyz, the ASAPH Orchestra, and a performing arts ministry competition.
It’s free, but if you go, please bring a canned good or non-perishable food to benefit the Opa-locka Make A Wish Veterans Inc., which will also have a concession stand available as a fundraiser to benefit the organization. And bring your own blankets and lawn chairs.
