TEAM OF THE WEEK

Led by quarterback Akeem Jones, who threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns, Carol City’s football team picked up its first win against Northwestern since 2004.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Jaquan Johnson, Killian, football: Johnson ran for three touchdowns and set up another with a 44-yard pass in a 27-13 victory over Southridge.

Cedrick Wiggins, North Miami Beach, football: Wiggins ran for the winning 7-yard touchdown in overtime and threw for another earlier to lead the Chargers to a 29-23 win over previously unbeaten Palmetto.

Andrew Florvil, Dade Christian, football: Florvil caught the game-winning touchdown late in a 14-13 victory over previously unbeaten Reagan.

Kathryn Trinka, Ransom Everglades, volleyball: Trinka earned All-Tournament honors at the Tampa Berkeley Prep Premier tournament. Trinka had 50 kills, 28 digs, six blocks and four aces to lead the Raiders to a couple of wins, including one over host and defending state champion Berkeley Prep.

Sophie Serrano, Ferguson, volleyball: Serrano had 40 assists, seven kills and 15 digs to lead the Falcons to a district win over Lourdes.

Nico Junghan, MAST, boys’ swimming: Junghan won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke in each of the Makos’ victories over Krop and TERRA.

Carla Robles, Coral Reef, girls’ swimming: Robles won the 100 free and 200 IM to lead the Cudas to a win over Coral Gables.

Avery Lopez, Belen, boys’ cross-country: Lopez ran a time of 16:45.80 to secure the individual championship of the Fleet Feet Invitational.

Julio Betancourt, Columbus, boys’ golf: Betancourt shot a 69 to win the Youth Fair Invitational championship.

Julie Steinbauer, Carrollton, girls’ golf: Steinbauer shot a 78 to win the Youth Fair Invitational championship and lead her team to victory.

Carlos Forero, Killian, boys’ bowling: Forero bowled a 730 high series to lead the Cougars to a win over Coral Park.

Melissa Perez, Ferguson, girls’ bowling: Perez bowled 667 to lead the Falcons to a win over Braddock.
