Jose Aurelio Sibila, grandfather of Coral Gables lawyer and Miami Crawls co-founder Estrellita Sibila, died on Sunday. He was 91.
Sibila was born on Oct. 20, 1920, and came to the United States from Matanzas, Cuba, in 1955. The family moved to New York and later to Miami. He worked for minimum wage and put through the effort to put his children through college, said his son and Miami lawyer Jorge Sibila.
He is survived by his wife of more than six decades, Antonia; son Jorge and another son, Jose Manuel Sibila of Cumming, Ga.; and grandchildren Jorge, Estrellita, Christy, Alicia, Sofia, and Hector Sibila. Estrellita, also a lawyer and know for her work as co-executive director of Philanthrofest, an organization that facilitates outreach, brand awareness and education opportunities to South Florida philanthropic and cultural arts organizations.
A visitation is set for 5 to 11 p.m. Monday at Bernardo Garcia Funeral Home, 4100 NW Seventh St., Miami.
