CINCINNATI’S DALTON TAKES WEEK 2, ATLANTA’S RYAN STILL TOP OVERALL QB IN HERALD RANKINGS
Bengal Andy Dalton narrowly takes the Week 2 title but Falcon Matt Ryan (also narrowly) maintains his early-season lead in The Miami Herald’s 15th season of Passer Success System (PASS) quarterback rankings. Four-time defending champion Drew Brees of the Saints finally sneaks on to the Top 20 chart, while Dolphin Ryan Tannehill bumps up three spots to 29th. Our simple formula, unchanged since its inception in 1998, factors accuracy, yardage, touchdown/interception ratio and team result. Most passer ratings including the NFL’s are complicated and percentile-based, allowing a player who missed half a season injured to still win a passing title. Our rankings are cumulative, placing a premium on QBs who are consistently productive and avoid injury or benching. Look for our weekly 2012 rankings in this space every Sunday.
