I’m a big proponent of freedom of speech. It’s a tenet that separates America from a lot of other countries.
However, we have had to adjust that freedom in our history when some nut yelled fire in a crowded theater just to see what would happen.
It’s pretty clear that we can predict what the reaction will be across the Middle East from small, but violent, groups of people when someone from the United States disrespects their religion by burning the Quran or making a hate film about Islam: Americans in these regions will die.
I think these pathetic attention-seeking malcontents should be held accountable for their actions. If there are no laws to arrest and prosecute these flawed Americans, then there should be. To give such people protection and shelter from prosecution under the First Amendment lessens the value and the majesty of our freedom of speech.
