President Barack Obama might have one unexpected guest for his speech at the University of Miami on Thursday afternoon.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says a “nonpartisan elephant” will show up to the Coral Gables campus at noon holding a sign that reads “Mr. President: Tell USDA to confiscate beaten circus elephants.” The animal rights group is protesting the way circuses train elephants and is asking that the USDA confiscate the animals.
According to a PETA news release, the elephant, which will likely be a person dressed in costume, “doesn’t belong to either party, even though he is often mistaken for a Republican.”
Obama will speak at UM at 2 p.m. for a Univision-hosted event.
