As expected, Shellie Zimmerman was not in court Wednesday morning in Sanford for a routine hearing, but her attorney asked for a delay and got it.
The judge set Zimmerman’s next hearing for Oct. 17.
The 25-year-old Zimmerman is charged with perjury, a felony. She is the wife of George Zimmerman, the Sanford neighborhood-watch volunteer who shot to death Miami Gardens teen Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.
Special Prosecutor Angela Corey’s office in June charged Shellie Zimmerman with perjury, alleging that she lied at her husband’s first bond hearing in April when she told the judge that she and her husband were broke. In truth, they had $130,000 that they had been shifting from account to account, something they discussed in recorded phone calls George Zimmerman made in April while an inmate at the Seminole County Jail.
He is free on bond, awaiting trial on a second-degree-murder charge.
