Greg Cote’s Thursday night NFL pick

GIANTS (1-1) at PANTHERS (1-1)

Line: NYG by 1

Cote’s pick: CAR 34-31

TV: 8:20 p.m., NFL Network

Giants and Cats both got level with pointfest wins last week, New York rallying to beat Tampa and Carolina topping rival N’Awlins. Defense will again be an unconfirmed rumor Thursday night in what I see as a wildly offensive game in Charlotte. The scoreboard operator will be (as my Dad used to say) busier than a one-armed paper hanger. This is the coin flip the near-pick-’em line suggests, so give me the home team on a short week in a small upset. The visiting Biggies are more banged up, and that will include the absence of top RB Ahmad Bradshaw and WR Hakeem Nicks. Strange to say considering Eli Manning launched 510 passing yards last week, but I like the other QB for the bigger fantasy numbers here. Cam Newton has been much better at home in his young career, and NYG’s defense (including that vaunted pass rush) has disappointed.
