Obama and Romney visits to UM likely to cause traffic delays in area

University of Miami expects traffic delays around BankUnited Center Wednesday and Thursday, when President Barack Obama and opponent Mitt Romney are in town.

Miami Herald Staff Report

Drivers could run into delays when Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama make stops at the University of Miami on Wednesday and Thursday.

UM is expecting delays throughout both days on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, U.S. 1, and streets adjacent to the BankUnited Center.

Romney will be visiting UM at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Obama at 1 p.m. Thursday. Both will be special guests of Univision broadcasts called "El Gran Encuentro con el Gobernador Mitt Romney" and "El Gran Encuentro con el Presidente Barack Obama."

The two programs — scheduled to take place in the BankUnited Center Fieldhouse — will be conversations with the candidates. While the questions will be in Spanish, they will be answered in English by the candidates and translated to Spanish where necessary. The events will be taped by Univision and will be aired later each day.
