RHODES HOBBLING

FIU junior running back Kedrick Rhodes was held out of practice Monday with a right leg injury.

“He’s pretty sore, so we had him out of practice [Monday],” coach Mario Cristobal said.

Possible replacements for Rhodes, if necessary would be Shane Coleman, Darian Mallary and Jeremiah Harden.

Miami connection

Louisville, the Panthers’ opponent Saturday at FIU Stadium, is banking heavily on Miami talent to sling it into the national spotlight.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 20 in the nation, have 34 players from Florida on their roster, and 21 of those players — led by quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from Miami Northwestern High — are from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

• Louisville might have some revenge on its mind. A year ago, FIU beat Louisville 24-17 in Kentucky.
