I’m so impressed by South Plantation’s backup quarterback Erin Dimeglio. By becoming the first girl in Florida’s history to play quarterback in a varsity high school football game, she showed girls in the state and across the country that sports are for everyone, no matter your gender. Her behavior on the field is something to be proud of. I am nominating her achievement as a “Top Ten Responsible Sports Moments” of 2012. This national program seeks out examples of sportsmanship and good behavior to salute in a national public forum.
The Responsible Sports program is also a great online source of information, tips and best practices to help coaches and parents responsibly mentor their young athletes. Its goal is to recognize the positive values that sports instill in young people so we can read about more examples like Erin and the South Plantation football team.
