Bring business ideas to life during Miami’s Startup Weekend

University of Miami’s Launch Pad is hosting Startup Weekend’s return to Miami in October.

Startup Weekend put on 400 events in 100 countries in 2011, making it the largest organization of its type. At the events, entrepreneurs, developers, designers and marketers come together for weekend-long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams and launch companies.

At a Startup Weekend, participants pitch their startup ideas and receive feedback from their peers. Teams form around the top ideas and then the teams spend the rest of the weekend creating a business model, coding, designing and validating, with the assistance of local mentors. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders — feedback and awards are given. Some teams continue working together on their companies after the weekend is over.

Startup Weekend Miami, begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 and runs through 9 p.m. Oct. 14 and costs $99. To get an earlybird discount, enter Earlybird in the promotion code. For more information or to register, go to miami.startupweekend.org.

There is also a Startup Weekend happening in Boca Raton the same weekend. It takes place at the Business Technology Incubator at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University. For more information on that event, go to bocaraton.startupweekend.org
