Kids’ 9/11 performance leads to tears at Broward Walmart

 

Pupils from Coconut Palm Elementary School arrived to sing ‘God Bless America’ to mark the somber date. They were thrown out, but the company later apologized.

On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, students from Coconut Palm Elementary School in Miramar showed up at a local Walmart, clad in patriotic red, white and blue, to sing God Bless America as part of a prearranged tribute.

But the group’s excitement turned to disappointment Tuesday evening when a Walmart representative refused to honor an agreement allowing the chorus to sing inside the store at 12800 Pines Blvd., according to Coconut Palm Principal Terri Thelmas.
