Film crew recreates gruesome MacArthur Causeway attack

A narrated Timeline of flesh-eating attack in Miami

A film crew spent hours Saturday recreating the vicious attack on the MacArthur Causeway, in which a homeless man had his face chewed off on Memorial Day weekend.

The crew, which declined requests for an interview, started shooting at about 11 a.m. Motorists driving by the scene and even passengers aboard a double-decker tour bus seemed confused by the disturbing scene. Those within earshot could hear the film's director shouting orders such as, "More violent!," to the two actors playing the role of the attacker, Rudy Eugene, and the victim, Ronald Poppo.

Eugene, 31, was shot to death by Miami police on May 26 as he crouched over Poppo's limp body, naked and growling, chewing off chunks of the man's face. It took several bullets fired by a stunned police officer to stop him.

Poppo, 65, survived but he was blinded as a result of the attack and has undergone several reconstructive surgeries.
