Shark chomps down on man’s calf behind the W Hotel in South Beach

A South Beach man is recovering after being bitten by a shark while staying at a South Beach hotel.

According to Miami Beach Fire Chief Javier Otero, a man was swimming in the water behind the W Hotel, at 22nd Street and Collins Avenue.

He was surrounded by a school of tarpons when he felt something bite his calf.

The man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. It is not known whether he is a local or a tourist.
