TALLAHASSEE -- On Monday morning, coach Jimbo Fisher said freshmen defensive ends Chris Casher and Mario Edwards Jr. would redshirt this season.
By Thursday night, after finding out that senior defensive end Brandon Jenkins would miss the season with a Lisfranc injury, things had changed.
“They’re both going to play,” Fisher said.
“They’re going to play throughout the season. We’re going to start playing them and get them involved in things, and we’re going to go with it.”
The pair is still behind starters Bjoern Werner (Jr.) and Tank Carradine (Sr.), as well as Giorgio Newberry (redshirt freshman) and Toshmon Stevens (redshirt senior), but Fisher wanted to play the two freshmen with Jenkins out of the rotation.
Huge favorite
As of Thursday, the Seminoles were 70 1/2-point favorites over Savannah State, one of the largest point spreads in college football history.
Last Saturday, the Tigers lost 84-0 to Oklahoma State.
