Leal leads Coral Reef volleyball to win over Ferguson

Coral Reef setter Daniela Leal led the Barracudas to a 25-18, 25-15, 26-24 win over Ferguson in a girls’ volleyball match Wednesday.

Leal had three aces, three kills, 15 assists and four digs. She has been at the forefront of Coral Reef’s squad making The Miami Herald’s All-Dade volleyball team in the 2011-12 season with a total of 416 assists, 94 kills, 66 aces, 25 blocks and 115 digs.

Baylee Waterman contributed to the victory over the Falcons with eight kills, seven blocks and three digs. While Kristine Rios added four aces, four kills, and 10 digs.

The Barracudas (3-0) have had an impressive season thus far defeating Palmetto and Varela after making it to regionals and finishing last season with a 21-6 record.

Game cancelled

The football game between Southwest and Hialeah Gardens scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Eagles’ home field was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Thunderstorms in the vicinity of Southwest delayed and subsequently postponed the non-district matchup. The game is not expected to be rescheduled.

Southwest (1-0) will next play Miami High (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Sept.14 at Curtis Park. Hialeah Gardens (0-1), which is seeking its first win in over a year, will host Miami Beach (1-0) on campus Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
