FIU Golden Panthers’ Darrian Dyson returns

Miami Herald Writer

Darrian Dyson, a 6-3, 315-pound freshman defensive end, has been cleared academically by the NCAA and practiced Wednesday. Whether he will play Saturday against Akron is another question.

“You can get out of football shape in a hurry,” FIU coach Mario Cristobal said. “There’s some catching up to do.”

ZIPPY DOLPHINS

Hard to believe, but the Zips of Akron have a couple of Dolphins connections.

Coaching the Akron defensive backs is Terrell Buckley, the former Dolphins defensive back. Buckley played 14 years in the NFL, including 1995 to ’99 with the Dolphins.

In addition, Jason Taylor — the Dolphins’ former All-Pro defensive end — played for Akron and holds the school career record for sacks with 21. As a senior in 1996, Taylor was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference team.
