Miami police identified Wednesday the man killed by a hit-and-run driver in Liberty City over the weekend.

Johnnie Lee Randle, 56, of Miami was killed Saturday as he tried to cross the street, police said.

The fatal crash happened about 6:15 a.m. as Randle tried to cross at the intersection of Northwest 12th Avenue and 60th Street. The impact threw Randle more than 100 feet, and police said his belongings were scattered all over the nearby block.

Witnesses told police they saw black Honda Accord driving away at a high rate of speed.

About an hour later, a Miami-Dade police detective saw a vehicle near Northwest 27th Avenue and 91st Street with windshield damage and blood, police said. That person was questioned by police, but as of Wednesday he had not been charged with the crash that caused Randle’s death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami police Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 305-471-8477.
