Tickets on sale for Les Dames-MCI Julia tribute Sept. 15

 

Knowing that mid-August is no time to throw a party in South Florida, Les Dames d’Escoffier Miami is holding its 100th birthday bash for the late Julia Child a month after the fact.

Tickets are on sale for the Sept. 15 event at Miami Dade College’s Miami Culinary Institute, 415 NE Second Ave., Miami, with net proceeds benefitting Les Dames scholarships. Here’s the lineup:

10:30 a.m.: “From Julia Child’s Kitchen to Yours” with chef Michelle Bernstein; $60.

1 p.m.: “Backstage with Julia” with author Nancy Verde Barr; $30, students $10.

3 p.m.: “From Mastering the Art of French Cooking to Tweeting for Your Supper;” $30.

5 p.m.: Cocktail party at Tuyo restaurant with small plates; $75.

7:30 p.m.: Tuyo tribute dinner by chef Norman Van Aken; $150.

  • Beer dinner at Biscayne Tavern

    Biscayne Tavern, 146 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, launches a craft-beer dinner series at 7 p.m. June 25. The five-course, $45 meal, orignally scheduled for June 18, will be paired with Brewery Ommegang beers, and guests will be sent home with a goodie bag. Menu highlights include candied swine with Iron Throne Blonde Ale and short-rib post roast with Abbey Dubbel Ale. Reservations requested at 305-307-8300.

    Pop-up dinner at Harry’s Pizza

    Harry’s Pizzeria, 3918 N. Miami Ave., Miami, hosts chef Jeff Michaud, a James Beard Award winner from Philadelphia’s Osteria, for a pop-up dinner at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The evening includes a cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, four-course meal with wine and beer and a take-home bottle of limoncello for $150 including tax and tip.
