Miami Gardens police are investigating a shooting at a home health care business on the second floor of an office building on U.S. 441.

Police said a man with a gun arrived at the business Friday evening in an apparent robbery attempt.

“A male came into a business, presented a firearm, made threats a shot was fired by that individual and someone within the business shot and killed the assailant,” Capt. Alfred Lewers, Jr. said.

A woman who was in the hair salon next door to where the shooting happened said she thought the loud noises were construction equipment.

“I heard some gunshots — probably like 6 or 7 gunshots,” Courtney Carpenter said. “I was pretty frightened because I didn’t know what was going on and I didn’t know if they were gonna go next door and do the same thing to us.”

Carpenter said there were 10 people and several children inside the hair salon.

Police said it’s unclear if the employee who fired the shots will face any charges.

Investigators have not released the name of the man who was shot and killed.
